Installing an app
Every app is a Progressive Web App. That means there is no app store, no download, and no account — you open it in a browser and, if you want it on your home screen, you add it there yourself. It then opens full screen like any other app.
On iPhone and iPad
- Open the app in Safari. This only works in Safari; Chrome on iOS cannot install web apps.
- Tap the Share icon — the square with the arrow coming out of it.
- Choose Add to Home Screen.
- Confirm. The app now sits on your home screen and launches without the browser chrome.
On Android
- Open the app in Chrome.
- Tap the ⋮ menu.
- Choose Install app or Add to Home screen, whichever your version shows.
- Confirm.
On desktop
In Chrome or Edge, look for the install icon at the right-hand end of the address bar and click it. If it isn't there, the app still works perfectly as a normal tab — bookmark it and carry on.
Offline use
TIP
Once an app has finished loading once, it keeps working without a connection. You only need to be online for that first load, and for anything that genuinely needs the network.
Installing is also what keeps your data around longest — see Your data for why an app you never open is the one most likely to lose its storage.
